Book Review: Cage of Stars by Jacquelyn Mitchard

I read this book 2 months back and liked the story very much – its turn outs despite of the book cover which was almost in tatters and not appealing at all. Oh the book cover posted here isn't the same one.

The author, Jacquelyn Mitchard sense of style is as almost the same as Jodi Picoult where emotions of the reader is twisted as each page is turned and forwarding complex issues that at times are unspoken of.

The story tells of the life of a teenager and her family which was brutally shattered with the deaths of her two young sisters and ordeal that they go through. Cage of Stars is not a light read to say the least as the storyline is very intense on the subject matter.

A story that tells how the young girl overcame her grief, pain, anger and vengeance toward the man who caused it all as well as trying to understand him of how he could do such deed on innocent lives… Always thinking whether he the killer feels any remorse of his act…And what could she have done to undo of such event to happen to her loved ones…. Accepting the situation, moving forward and learning to forgive – the killer, her parents (of how they dealt the situation at the time and the years that went by) and herself.

As the main character, she brings the story to life with her complexity. Kudos to the author who did a good job of binding the storyline together with no hurriedness that some literary themes such as the coming-of-age and first love was not left out. Rating: 5/5
